Along with search engine submission, directory is another way of promoting your website. Directory Submission actually improves your search engine ranking and traffic.
Since search engine also identifies significant inbound links. Your page ranking at search engine standing will increase if you were listed in those human editors managed directories. The directories also facilitate in categorizing your website to their index so that search engines can easily spot your site from a related search.
High value content serves your business best
As home based business owner, we all have the same goal of earning extra income from the traffic that our website creates. The more visitors we have the greater chance of earning more.
In order to make our business website of high commercial value, we need to provide what the visitors are looking for. That is why the content of the site should be as informative and as helpful as possible.

Your site may be placed after the 50 or 100 return list. It is therefore important that your website will be listed in the Top 10 or the first 30 sites from the search return list.

Aside from on-page keyword optimization, you still need to consider the quality and the quantity of your site's inbound links popularity.
Ensure that you submit your website to trustworthy directories. Directory Submission strengthens your site's credibility since it is being linked by external websites.
Search engines are able to trace these links through their ranking algorithm thus increasing your chance of being placed in the first 30 return list.
Establish Credibility through Directory Submission
There are a few major directories available that could help you increase your search engine ranking. We have the Yahoo Directory and the Open Directory Project or DMOZ.
Note that Yahoo Directory is different from the Yahoo Search Engine. The former requires payment while the latter is free of charge.
Yahoo Directory
The Yahoo Directory charge is approximately $300 just for website evaluation. Additionally, there is no assurance that they will accept your site to be included in their directory. Aside from the evaluation fee, you still have to pay annual dues once your website is listed in the directory.
Open Directory Project
Open Directory Project known as DOMZ, on one hand, offers free listing. However, they have an extremely looooooong evaluation period.
No matter with which directory you intended to submit. Wait until you have written 20 - 30 content pages. Their editors are only interested in adding sites, which have sufficient amount of substance and value.
Second Tier Directories
In some ways, second tier directories offer better value than those majors. The fee for example, are reasonable. For less than hundred dollars will get you in and uaually within a few days
Especially, if you have an immature site you should take advantage of the second tier directories. They can offer you a cost-effective manner to build your link populatirty. It will be easier for robots or spiders and a few visitors to this spot to find your site.
You might be interested in submitting your site to some of these high quality directories. Few of them were having a PR9 ! and which are FREE.
One big caveat
If you decide to execute your Directory Submission, do it manually. Be sure that you have read the guidelines and you can conform to whatever agreement they set. If you fail to do this, your website might not be accepted and you will put your time and money to waste.
Another advice would be to create different descriptions for every Directory Submission you make. Search engines can identify duplicates and if you will use a single description for your site, your website will be unrecognized.
Personally, I didn't expect building an online business to be this challenging. It appeared to be more complex than I have imagined. Good thing that all the help I need are available online. The SBI had contributed much to my knowledge in establishing my business.
