Seven steps manually turn your document into an ebook


1. Insert page number

Before insert page number to your book, add two extra blank pages before your document could be a good idea.

Follow these steps to insert page number.

From menu | Insert | Page Numbers

That opens the Page Numbers dialog.

2. Establish chapter anchor

Modify the title of each chapter into an anchor of table of content
Create Anchor for TOC

Place the cursor at the front of the title - Introduction is the title in this example

At the style drop down menu, select Heading 1. An anchor is created.

 

 

3. Create Table of Content

After inserted all the anchors for each chapter. It is time to create the Table of Content at the front of the book.
Go to the second inserted blank page at the beginning of the book.
Table of content will be presented at this page.

Select the Insert menu | Index and Tables..

At the Table of Content tab check
Show page numbers and Right align page numbers.

If you have checked the two options "Show page numbers" and "Right align page number" while you configure the Index and Tables dialog box.Then you will see the out come result look like this figure.
 

4. Update Table of Content

From time to time there is always a need to update the table of content

Right click at the mouse button, a pop up menu will be opened. Select Update Field.

A second Update Table of Contents dialog popup, click Update entire table. OK

Create Table of Content one chapter at a time is the most safest way to accomplish the job

 

5. Print out the eBook

After finished composing the final chapter of the book and Table of Content is created. You are ready to turn your written document into an ebook.

On the net, Adobe PDF is the most popular ebook format. One of the obvious advantage of this format, it maintains the layout design and the original writing.

However, Microsoft Office Word 2003 and below document can not be saved in PDF format. So We need a tool to convert the document into a PDF file.

The software PDF redirect acts as a printer. Whenever you sent document to be print by this software. You get a PDF file as an output.

since this PDF redirect will create a file on your computer, you have to select a directory to save the file.

Your Microsoft Office Word document has been converted into an ebook, without covers.

 

6. Design a cover for your ebook

Use any graphical software: adobe photoshop, GIMP etc to design a nice looking front page. Then attach this new cover to the ebook.

We also need to turn this picture into PDF format, simply by sending it to print.

Open & view the front page

The easiest way to turn it into PDF is open it with Windows picture and fax viewer.

While viewing the picture, click at the printer icon and send it to print.

Photo Printing wizard will be opened. Select PDF redirect as the printer.

Also check the printing preference, if the page format is appropriate or not.

Pick a nice looking output While you are at layout selection.

7. Put the book and the cover together

This job could be done again by using PDF redirect.

select all the document

Select whatever files you need from directory into Merge List box.

Re-arrange the order of those files with up-down buttons and add new files or remove files with + - buttons

The final eBook

When you are satisfied with all the content of your new ebook, click the save button and your ebook will be created

 

Final step - create an icon for your ebook

Up to this stage, your ebook has been successfully created.

The following step is to create an icon for the ebook. Which acts as a wraping paper of the book. it doesn't increase any value of the content. However with this extra skin icon it will look much professional and fancy when you promote your ebook
